Another fun book in the series but I’m starting to burn out on it. I think I’m going to take a little break from the books before I pick them back up again.

About the Book:

Dear Reader,

If you are looking for a story about cheerful youngsters spending a jolly time at boarding school, look elsewhere. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent and resourceful children, and you might expect that they would do very well at school. Don’t. For the Baudelaires, school turns out to be another miserable episode in their unlucky lives.

Truth be told, within the chapters that make up this dreadful story, the children will face snapping crabs, strict punishments, dripping fungus, comprehensive exams, violin recitals, S.O.R.E., and the metric system.

It is my solemn duty to stay up all night researching and writing the history of these three hapless youngsters, but you may be more comfortable getting a good night’s sleep. In that case, you should probably choose some other book.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

I heard so much about this book through some of the book bloggers that I follow on YouTube and I looked at it at the bookstore but I picked it up at the library and I definitely do not regret reading it! It’s such a good book and so sad! I would definitely recommend this book and I will definitely be piing this book up so I have it for my collection!

This was also my first Patrick Ness novel and it definitely will not be my last.

About the Book:

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Not my favourite of the series so far but still enjoyable. I look forward to reading more but taking a break for now.

About the Book:

I hope, for your sake, that you have not chosen to read this book because you are in the mood for a pleasant experience. If this is the case, I advise you to put this book down instantaneously, because of all the books describing the unhappy lives of the Baudelaire orphans, The Miserable Mill might be the unhappiest yet. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to Paltryville to work in a lumber mill, and they find disaster and misfortune lurking behind every log. The pages of this book, I?m sorry to inform you, contain such unpleasantries as a giant pincher machine, a bad casserole, a man with a cloud of smoke where his head should be, a hypnotist, a terrible accident resulting in injury, and coupons. I have promised to write down the entire history of these three poor children, but you haven?t, so if you prefer stories that are more heartwarming, please feel free to make another selection.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

Things just getting worse and worse for these kids.

Still an enjoyable series. I look forward to reading more of the series but I am curious as to how Snicket is going to keep the series interesting and not feeling like it is dragging on.

About the Book:

Dear Reader,

If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick-witted, but their lives, I am sorry to say, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and this one may be the worst of them all.If you haven’t got the stomach for a story that includes a hurricane, a signalling device, hungry leeches, cold cucumber soup, a horrible villain, and a doll named Pretty Penny, then this book will probably fill you with despair.I will continue to record these tragic tales, for that is what I do. You, however, should decide for yourself whether you can possibly endure this miserable story.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

I really enjoyed this book! The beginning of the book was a little slow but once the story picked up, I got sucked right into it and there was an unexpected twist that I did not see coming. I really look forward to checking out other books by Watson.

About the Book:

“As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me. . . .”

Memories define us.

So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep?

Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love—all forgotten overnight.

And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story.

Welcome to Christine’s life.

Bout of Books 11.0 Readathon TBR!

I am posting this a little late as I totally forgot to put this up last night but I am participating in the Bout of Books 11.0 Readathon and the books I definitely want to start and finish during this week are:

1. Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson
2. The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events #3) by Lemony Snicket
3. The Miserable Mill (A Series of Unfortunate Events #4) by Lemony Snicket
4. The Austere Academy (A Series of Unfortunate Events #5) by Lemony Snicket

I think I will be able to at least start a 5th book (I hope to finish it but I may not) and I will pick one of the following to start:

5. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
6. The Maze Runner (The Maze Runner #1) by James Dashner
7. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

I’m so excited to be participating in this readathon! I had a lot of fun doing the 10.0 readathon earlier in this year and I hope it allows me to get a dent in some of my library books!

Bout of Books 11.0!

Bout

It’s that time again! I had so much fun with the last Bout of Books readathon that I’m going to attempt it again! I will post my TBR later this week once I figure out what I plan on reading!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I loved everything about this book! I’m so glad that I was able to get my hands on a copy of this book through my library’s Inter-Library program as I have been hearing nothing but good things about this book! I loved the premise of this books as well as the characters. Schwab had a great writing style that just seems to suck you in from page one. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery with a touch of supernatural!

About the Book:

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?
