This was an okay book. Not my favourite in the series but still enjoyable. Patterson and his co-authors do need to re-think their naming of characters. The main character in this book is Michael Bennett and one of the villians was Mr. Beckett. Too similar of names in my opinion.

 About the Book:

New Yorkers aren’t easily intimidated, but someone is doing their best to scare them, badly: why? After two inexplicable high-tech attacks, the city that never sleeps is on edge. Detective Michael Bennett, along with his old pal, the FBI’s Emily Parker, have to catch the shadowy criminals who claim responsibility—but they’re as good at concealing their identities as they are at wreaking havoc.

In the wake of a shocking assassination, Bennett begins to suspect that these mysterious events are just the prelude to the biggest threat of all. Soon he’s racing against the clock, and against the most destructive enemy he’s faced yet, to save his beloved city—before everyone’s worst nightmare becomes a reality.

I’m giving this book a 2.5 star rating.

While I really enjoyed books 1 and 2 of the series, book 3 was okay and this was just “meh” to me. I felt like the plot was all over the place and things were wrapped up and resolved too quickly. Also, there was one event in the book that really rubbed me the wrong way. I won’t say what it is but the main character seemed to get over this life changing event without any significant grieving or emotion and it jut seemed unrealistic in regards to the story. Overall, it was an okay read though.

 About the Book:

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can’t believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

What Are You Reading Wednesday!

I was tagged by Kristine over at The Writer’s Inkwell to do the “What Are You Reading Wednesday” #WAYRW, which is a weekly event on It’s A Reading Thing. I know it’s Thursday but I’m a rebel like that.

How to participate:
Grab the book you are currently reading and answer three questions:

1. What’s the name of your current read?

Opposition

Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

2. Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your eBook and share a couple of sentences.

“We may lose a few, but those losses will not impact our initiative.”

“But I’m still not convinced you’re rocking all the right girl parts.”

3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

I think I wouldn’t mind living in the world that exists within this book (hello, Daemon), however, If I had a choice, I’d want to live in this world during books 1 and 2 of the series.

Simple Book Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Kristine over at the Writer’s Inkwell, Thanks so much Kristine for tagging me! I love these things! This tag was originally posted by Sarah at Sarah’s Bookshelf! Be sure to check both of these ladies out!

1. What do you think about the blurb/summary at the back of a book?

Quite honestly, the blurbs/summaries at the back of the book or the dust jacket does very little for me. When it comes to authors that I have read before, I very rarely every read the blurb/summary. When a new book catches my eye or a friend recommends a book to me, I may read the blurb on Goodreads or the back of the book/dust jacket just to see if it would be something that I’d be into but most of the time, I go into books blindly. My bookish friends know my tastes so when I receive a recommendation from them, I trust their tastes.

2. In which format do you prefer a new book? Audiobook, e-book, paperback or hardback?

I like physical copies of books and I know I’m in the minority when I say that I like paperbacks over hardbacks. They may not look as pretty but I find them easier to handle. Also, I live in Canada and books are expensive here. I can’t justify spending $30+ on a hardcover book (Harry Potter was the exception to this).

3. Do you keep notes while reading? Do you like annotating your books or do you prefer keeping them clean?

*GASP* Write in books?!!! Absolutely not. I keep my books in pristine condition. The only books that I have ever wrote in or marked up was my college textbooks and even that took me awhile to do.

4. Which is one of your favorite sentences from a book?

“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here.” Neil Gainman, “Make Good Art.”

5. Does it matter to you whether the author of a book is a man or a woman? What happens when you’re not certain about their gender?

An author’s gender holds absolutely no bearing on whether I read a book. Why should it?

6. Do you rush ahead when reading? Have you ever read the end of a book before actually reaching the end?

I don’t read ahead no matter how anxious I am to know what happens or how the book ends. I hate spoilers and I actively try to avoid them and/or spoiling myself. That being said, if I’m not enjoying a book and I’m more than halfway through the book, I will speed read/skim the rest of the book.

7. Are your bookshelves in order or do they look bombarded?

It’s an organized chaos My two bookshelves are organized(ish) but I have piles of books all over my room because I don’t have enough room for all of my books on my shelves. I need to get a new bookshelf and do an unhaul!

8. Have you ever bought a book just because of its cover?

Perhaps as a kid I may have but as an adult, no. I guess the closest thing to this that I could count as buying a book because of its cover is a specific edition of “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott. This book is my all time favourite book and there was a specific edition that I wanted (even though I have two other copies of the book and have read it multiple times).

9. Do you read in public or do you prefer the quiet of home?

I can read anywhere and everywhere. I read at home and I read out in public. My book follows me everywhere as you never know when you may have 5 minutes to read here and there. My lunch hour at work is often spent reading and Saturday morning I often go to Starbucks after I finish my errands where I will have a coffee and read for awhile.

10. Do you typically prefer the movie/tv show or the book?

95% of the time, I prefer the book to the tv show/movie. I always make sure that I have read the book before seeing the movie or watching the tv show. The exception to this is The Vampire Diaries. I hated those books with a passion but I like the tv show.  In my opinion, the Harry Potter movies and the Outlander tv show are the best book to movie/tv show I have seen.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was stronger than book three was and I definitely look forward to reading more. The addition of the Origins is interesting and I want to know more about them!

 About the Book:

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

This is a re-read for me and I loved this book just as much as I did when I first read it. If you haven’t read this book, you need to do so right away!

 About the Book:

According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for “social”) has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he’s always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers–until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy’s skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser.
