I LOVE THIS SERIES! I don’t know what more I can say about this series that hasn’t been said already by other readers. It was a great sequel to Cinder and I absolutely loved the Little Red Riding Hood-esque story and how Scarlet’s life intertwines with Cinder’s. I can’t wait for Cress which is out next week!

About the Book:

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

This book was phenomenal! I will admit that I was very skeptical about this book when I saw it at Chapters as I didn’t think it’d be something I’d enjoy but after seeing almost everyone raving about this book, of course being the sheep that I am, I had to check it out and boy am I glad that I did.

You have a re-telling of Cinderella, but it’s not really Cinderella. There’s aspects of the classic story but it’s not at all a Cinderella story. There’s twists and turns all over the place that kept me guessing and I struggled to put this book down. In fact, I lost sleep last night to finish the book and I don’t regret it at all.

Everyone should check this book out. You won’t regret it!

About the Book:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

As much as I love the Stephanie Plum series, I think it’s time that Evanovich retires the bounty hunter. The last few books have been repetitious but with only a few new elements or two mixed in (in this book, a giraffe). Stephanie still can’t choose between Morelli and Ranger, Lulu is still on “diets” and Stephanie must own a vampire hamster because Rex is mighty old by now.

That being said, I still enjoyed the book for what it is and it did make me laugh several times. If you have read this far in the series, you should read it but I wouldn’t have someone new to the series jump in with this instalment.

About the Book:

New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum knows better than to mess with family. But when powerful mobster Salvatore “Uncle Sunny” Sunucchi goes on the lam in Trenton, it’s up to Stephanie to find him. Uncle Sunny is charged with murder for running over a guy (twice), and nobody wants to turn him in—not his poker buddies, not his bimbo girlfriend, not his two right-hand men, Shorty and Moe. Even Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, has skin in the game, because—just Stephanie’s luck—the godfather is his actual godfather. And while Morelli understands that the law is the law, his old-world grandmother, Bella, is doing everything she can to throw Stephanie off the trail.

It’s not just Uncle Sunny giving Stephanie the run-around. Security specialist Ranger needs her help to solve the bizarre death of a top client’s mother, a woman who happened to play bingo with Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur. Before Stephanie knows it, she’s working side by side with Ranger and Grandma at the senior center, trying to catch a killer on the loose—and the bingo balls are not rolling in their favor.

I cannot rave about this book enough! I absolutely loved it and I had such a hard time putting it down! I normally wouldn’t have been drawn to a book like this but I picked it up solely based on ratings on Goodreads and I saw a friend raved about it and I’m glad that I picked it up.

Phenomenal world, characters and plot. I loved, loved, LOVED this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!!

About the Book:

The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.

But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

Favourite BookTube/Book Bloggers

I have recently discovered BookTube and let me tell you, I have lost a lot of time watching videos! But it’s so nice to find fellow bookworms that love to gush and rave about my favourite hobby! I honestly don’t know why I didn’t search YouTube for book reviews before now.

Also, I have a few friends that blog about their recent reads so I’m going to do a post with my favourite BookTubers and their blogs and my friends blogs (in no particular order!). I’m sure that this list will continue to grow as I keep watching BookTube and poking around the internet.

BOOKTUBE

1. Katytastic – BookTube Channel & Blog

Katy reads (from  what I can gather so far) a lot of YA fiction. I read a good mixture of Adult and YA fiction and from what I can tell, Katy and I have very similar tastes when it comes to YA fiction so I have enjoyed watching her reviews on different books which has made me put books on hold at the library to check out.  I am DEFINITELY jealous of her bookshelves!! Seriously, you need to watch her bookshelf tour!!

2. Little Book Owl – BookTube Channel & Blog

Again, Catriona reads primarily YA fiction and a lot of books that I either plan to read, have read or have heard about and want to check out. Her favourite book is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and she participates in various challenges and read-a-thons. I definitely recommend that you check her channel and blog out!!

3. Bookables- BookTube Channel

I’m relatively new to this Channel but so far I have really enjoyed her reviews and other videos. Again, mostly YA fiction but she also reviews movies! I have checked out a book from the library thanks to one of her recommendations and reviews!!

BLOGGERS

1. Carrie’s Musings

Carrie is a friend of mine and she blogs about books! She is currently participating in the 2014 Book Challenge on Goodreads.com and has challenged herself to 65 books! Definitely go check her out!

2. Dandelion Wine Book Blog

Another friend of mine! She is also participating in the 2014 Book Challenge on Goodreads.com and has challenged herself to 200 (I believe) books. I am in absolute awe! Go check out what she’s reading on her blog!!

It wasn’t until I was about 50 pages in that I realized that I was reading the second book in the series instead of the first. But I kept reading because that’s how I roll.

But I enjoyed this book. There were parts that I thought was a little too non-believable but overall, the story was great. I really loved reading Holder’s point of view and I can’t wait to go read “Hopeless” to see Sky’s point of view.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance with a hint of mystery on the side.

About the Book:

Still haunted by the little girl he let walk away, Holder has spent his entire life searching for her in an attempt to finally rid himself of the crushing guilt he has felt for years. But he could not have anticipated that the moment they reconnect, even greater remorse would overwhelm him…

Sometimes in life, if we wish to move forward, we must first dig deep into our past and make amends.

Book Sacrifice Tag!

I have seen a few Book Vloggers doing this tag on Youtube and I thought it was pretty neat. Since I don’t make vlogs, I’m just going to do this tag the good old fashioned way.

The idea of the Book Sacrifice Tag is to list a book (or two if you are so inclined) that you would sacrifice in all of the various scenarios.

DISCLAIMER: This tag is not meant to offend anyone or I’m not making fun of anyone that happens to like a particular book that I’m choosing to sacrifice. All of the books I choose is because I didn’t like a particular book.

So lets get to it, shall we?

Question #1: Let’s say you’re in a bookstore, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK. An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies’ only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing, but you really hate do you starting throwing at the zombies, knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out?

Painted Girls

The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan. I found this book to be a bit of a chore which is disappointed as it consistently has good reviews on both Goodreads.com and Chapters.com. It was missing the “wow factor” to me. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what the hype about this book is all about! The author has this way of glossing over important events that left me flipping back through the story trying to figure out when something happened. The change of narrator was a bit distracting and there were many times the plot seemed to lag. I’m very glad that I borrowed this one over buying it.

Question #2: Let’s say you’ve just left the salon with a SMASHING new haircut and BOOM: Torrential downpour. What sequel to a series are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. Now, as much as I make fun of the Twilight series, I did enjoy the series as a whole. Yes, most of it is fluff and yes, there is a lot of aspects of the books that really bother me but if I look past those issues, I did enjoy the series and I flew through the books in record speed.  That being said, Breaking Dawn does not exist in this series for me. Meyer could have done SO much with the last book in the series and instead, she ruins it. This book is what? 800 pages? 95% of those 800 pages are just talking. And worrying. And talking. There is talk and anticipation about this big epic battle and we were pretty much led to expect that one (or more) of the Cullens were going to die but……nothing. THEY TALK IT OUT!!! The Volturi go home and everyone lives happily ever after.

And this question is going to have a second book. Because……

Dead ever after

Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris. I loved the Southern Vampire Series, granted the series started losing me after book nine but that’s besides the point. At that point, I was reading for every morsel of Eric Northman I could get. This book though? There is nothing redeemable about it.  I’ve never seen a bigger “f-you” from an author than what I just read. Harris butchered one of my favourite series. Not to mention there is reference to something disturbing that is now permanently etched in my brain.

Thank you Charlaine Harris. I will never buy/read any of your other books ever again.

Question #3: A Classic: Let’s say you’re in a lecture and your English teacher is going on and on about how this classic changed the world, how it revolutionized literature and you get so sick of it that you chuck the classic right at his face because you know what? This classic is stupid and it’s worth detention just to show everyone how you feel! What Classic did you chuck?

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I’m sorry. I know this book is loved by many  but I just couldn’t get through it. Jane is whiny and completely unlikeable to me not to mention I felt like I was being preached at. I don’t think I made it much past half way through the book.

Question #4: Your Least Favourite Book of Life!: Let’s say that you’re hanging out at the library when BAM global warming explodes and the world outside becomes a frozen wasteland. You’re trapped and your only chance for survival is to burn a book. What is the book you first run to, your least favourite book of all life, what book do you not fully regret lighting?

HON+ the other million books in the series.

I read up to book 5 or 6? I don’t know. Maybe not even that high. The series had potential. I enjoyed maybe the first two books but after that, I couldn’t stand these books. The only reason why I read as many of the books in the series as I did was because I bought the books. That’ll teach me for buying so many books in a series before knowing whether I like them or not. This series is so obviously written by a teenager. Zoey is a complete Mary Sue who is unbreakable and unable to be injured or harmed. She seems to have the solutions for everything and she practically sleeps with any man that looks in her direction. I can’t stand these books and I cringe when I pass them in the bookstore. At least I’m going to be warm by the fire as there are millions of books in this series so the fire is going to be burning for a long time!

And that’s all!!

As for tags, I’m going to tag:

1. Daydreamer: @BeauCauchemar85
2. Original Billith: @Gilded_lady
3. Denise Targaryen: @Dandelionns

This book was a great read although it was slow in parts. I was a little skeptical about this book at first but once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. I will likely be checking out more of this author’s work in the future.

There is not enough words in any of the languages on this planet that can describe how good this book is.

I have heard nothing but good things about this book and this book definitely lives up to the hype. This book will tug at heartstrings and it will leave you in tears. This is definitely one book that I will revisit many times over.

About the Book:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
